Groot Eiland Wine

The Groot Eiland Wine cellar is situated in the Western Cape of South Africa, at the foot of the majestic Du Toitskloof mountain range. In view of the many cascading winter waterfalls, this area is well known for its extraordinary scenery, excellent wines, friendly and hospitable people. The unusual name Groot Eiland (big island) comes from the fact that the cellar and its farms are encircled by the water of the great Breede and Molenaars rivers. The wine cellar, surrounded by its sunbathed vineyards, is located on the banks of these two large meanderings rivers. An average winter rainfall of 650 mm per year results in deep, fertile alluvial soil and lush vineyard growth. The surrounding snow covered mountains of the Du Toitskloof and Bossieveld ranges make for spectacular scenery in winter. Long, extremely warm summers days and superb evenings induce great outdoor entertainment and adventures.
