Cuvée des Ardoises du Ch. des Earles
Wine; ABV: 13.5%;Ardoises meaning `slaves`, is the name of the vineyard it is produced from. It is the `second label` of Cháteau des Erles, stretching over 70 hectares and is set in a perfect location amid breathtaking landscapes, overlooking Villeneuve des Corbieres. The Carigan, Grenache and Syrah vines grown to produce this very splendid and special wine are very old. The windy climate provides the vegetation with the right amount of ventilation preventing diseases that thrive in humidity, thus eliminating the use of pesticides. The unique character of each grape variety is respected and with a carefully tailored approach, the very best is obtained out of each part of the vineyard. Several cuvées are produced. This wine is their
flagship, their very best, and what an exceptional Fitou it is, reflecting
the quality of the `terroir`, and for its outstanding quality it has been
recognised as ``the Crû of Fitou`` and is one of the finest wines of Languedoc-Roussillon.

The resultant wine is light, fruity and refreshing with delicious delicate aromas of yellow flowers, citrus, apricots, nectarines with grilled fish or a light fruit salad. [read on...]

Barco Negro 2008
The quality of Portuguese wines has improved enormously in recent years, as this delicious red wine bears out. The name Barco Negro was named after the Barco Rabelo, known from Pinhao to Oporto as the 'Barco Negro' because of its black hull and black sails, sailing down the River Duoro ast night carrying pyramids of pitch black casks secured by thick hemp ropes. The dark wines in these casks were said to be 'denser than diamonds'. Its beautiful ruby robe with deep glints of purple evokes the sombre nature of this mysterious 'Barco'Negro'. This depth of colour developed by the exceed ingly concentrated grapes is owed to the intense heat that overwhelms the Douro. This is the third successful vintage since introducing 2005 followed by the 2007. It has an impressive blackcurrant smoky bouquet and dark flavours, opening out with notes of liquorice, bitter chocolate, black cherries deliciously bound together with a brush of spicy oak. Chacayes 2003 Malbec
During the mid 1990s Lurton planted a vineyard especially for the production of exceptional wines on the high plateaus of the Andes. The location had all the qualities Lurton was looking for; poor soil made up of gravel, sand and volcanic dust, a cool climate owing to the high altitude (over 3000 feet) and pure water for irrigation. They are now starting to reap the benefits of this exceptional investment. This wine is dark bright plum colour, showing lots of glycerine extract. The nose is immediately attractive with high quality oak scents mixed with ripe fruit. The aromas of black cherries and bitter chocolate are associated with low cropped Malbec. Fresh sweet and well integarated chocolate and roasted coffee bean flavours on the palate with good lively acidity balancing the richness of fruit. Long and spicy finish, with finely integrated oak and tight ripe tannins indicating a long life ahead. A truly great wine. [read on...]
