Palliser Estates

Vineyards Palliser currently has approximately 85 hectares under vine - varieties of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris. These are grown on their various vineyards - Palliser, Pencarrow, Om Santi, Pinnacles and Clouston, which are all on the renowned Martinborough Terrace. Over this relatively small area, there are great differences in soil types and climate which all help to add complexity to the wines. Winery The original winery was built in time for the 1991 vintage, and as the company and vineyards grew it became neccessary to expand. The size of the winery doubled in 2002 and is now able to process 600 tonnes of fruit. A new purpose built barrel hall was constructed in 1999. This is built from thermomass concrete and is temperature controlled in order to minimise losses from evaporation.

Plaimont

Producteurs Plaimont are located at Saint-Mont, in the Gers, in Gascony.... Some decades ago, passionate and enthusiastic vignerons decided to work together to reconstruct an old vineyard. This vineyard was to produce quality wines in order to assure the future of the vine in Gascony. They enlisted the best `terroirs` and plots ; they choose to use only traditional grape varieties from Gascony ; each year up to half of the young grapes are sacrificed so that the vine can feed the remaining grapes better. Grapes are harvested in the traditional method, manually, in order to keep only the ripest. Winemaking All Plaimont wines are made from traditional Gascony grapes : - Tannat, Pinenc, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon for red and rosé wines ; - Arrufiac, Petit Courbu, Petit and Gros Manseng, Colombard, Ugni-Blanc and Listan for white wines. Some vignerons have century-old plots with grape varieties which are no longer in production. These gems are kept and studied: they include the varieties which are hoped will one day be among productive grape varieties, in order to always keep the authenticity and personality of the wines. Cellars Producteurs Plaimont has several air-conditioned ageing cellars, the most important one being found in an old ‘tuilerie’. It holds 3500 oak barrels and all barrels are less than three years old : this young age facilitates the best exchange between the tannins of the wood and those of the wine.

Pol Roger

What it Tastes Like `Fresh, floral and elegant on release, when the Meunier dominates, White Foil deepens and develops dried fruit complexity after two years when the Pinot Noir takes over.` - Decanter Magazine History Pol Roger has been trading in the U.K. through agents since the middle of the nineteenth century, and was established in 1990 as a majority-owned subsidiary of Pol Roger et Cie, of Epernay, France. Pol Roger et Cie is one of the very few remaining Houses in Champagne still owned and run by the family, who are personally responsible for the winemaking and selection of cuvées each year. Pol Roger was born on 24th December 1831, the first son of Pierre Charles Jean-Baptiste Roger, a lawyer based in Ay. Pol chose not to follow in his father`s footsteps, but received his support when he showed a determined interest in the wine trade. Pol set up in Ay as a négociant or wholesaler at the age of seventeen, drawing initial business from his family`s contacts and clients of his father. The following year, 1849, saw the birth of the new champagne house as Pol Roger began to create his own cuvées (for release from 1853) rather than bring in wines solely from other houses. His sales for the first six months of operation were 3,769 bottles and 825 half-bottles. Today that has grown to around 1.5 million per annum. Establishing the brand 1849 - 1899 - Historical events for Pol Roger champagnes in England began in the (continues) ...

Protos Bodega

History Protos (greek for `first`) is privileged to have originated in the bowels of one of the Comarca’s most important fortresses, Peñafiel Castle, which dates back to the XI. The castle is currently home to the Wine Provincial Museum with 2000 m2 occupied by exhibit rooms. The Ribera del Duero has a very long history of vine growing and wine making. The vineyards are a prominent feature of the landscape. The customs and the very nature of the local people reflect this long tradition. The oldest known reference to winemaking in the region is a 2000 year old Roman mosaic which was discovered in the village of Banos de Valdearados in 1972. It is the biggest Bacchian allegorical Roman mosaic (at 66 suqare metres) in the entire Iberian Peninsula, and the best preserved. The central character is the god Bachhus, seen taking hold of Adriadne with his right hand embracing Ampelos with his left arm. Bodegas Protos exports its wines to more than 30 countries worldwide being present in countries as far away as Brasil and Japan.

Raka Wine

The Dreyer Family bought the farm, Remhoogte south east of Hermanus in the Akkedisberg area in 1982. Piet Dreyer was doing commercial fishing at the time. They ran livestock and later planted citrus trees. Piet’s wife and children tended the farm in his absence. During 1999 the Dreyers planted 10 hectares Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz. Since then a few hectares were added every year, and the 68 hectares on the farm at present, includes plantings of Pinotage, Sangiovese, Viognier, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot and also larger plantings of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc, making the farm self-sufficient as far as varieties needed for the different blends are concerned. The farm is 17 kilometres from Stanford in a glen in the Kleinrivier Mountains, where the Klein River flows through. The Kleinrivier Mountains is the southernmost mountain range in Africa and its slopes provide a variety of aspects and soil types. The farm’s proximity to the sea ensures cooling breezes from Walker Bay in the afternoon while the South Easter blowing in from Agulhas on the Indian Ocean reduces the summer heat. The newly demarcated Klein River wine of origin ward is adjacent to the Walker Bay district and is cooler than the traditional wine growing areas of the Cape. Our Name and Brands: Piet Dreyer was a fisherman all his life. As a child, when he was about 16 years old, his father was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash and he helped his mother to support the family b (continues) ...

The Group is currently made up by the following companies: La Rioja Alta, S.A.: with wineries in Haro and Labastida. It offers classic rioja alta wines: Gran Reserva 890, Gran Reserva 904, Viña Ardanza, Viña Arana and Viña Alberdi. Torre de Oña, S.A., located in Páganos-Laguardia. The Barón de Oña, a red Reserva, is a typical rioja alavesa, modern wine. Lagar de Fornelos, S.A., where the delicate and aromatic Albariño Lagar de Cervera is made. Ribera del Duero: Although the wine is already aging in the barrel, a brand name has not yet been chosen yet for this full boby, tannic, modern, red Reserva. In red, Rioja Alta only make Reserva and Grandes Reservas. The youngest wine we offer has a minimum of 4 years of aging, including cask and bottle. In whites, only the Albariño Lagar de Cervera is made, which is considered one of the top white wines in Spain and a wine of international level. Production is limited with the goal of increasing - year after year - the qualities of the wines. This means a maximum of 40,000 cases in good years. It is not traditional in the Rioja for the great bodegas to own vineyards, but La Rioja Alta S.A. currently has 300 ha (741 acres) in order to control and secure grapes of the quality required, most of them in the subare (continues) ...
