Sancerre
Sancerre is a French white wine named for the town of Sancerre. Sancerre is a town in the East part of the Loire valley, North East of the city of Bourges in France. Aside from tourism, wine-making is the largest source of income for the area. Typical wines are made from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes grown in vineyards on marl or limestone based soil. The former tend to be fruitier and more well balanced than the latter. These wines are often considered the most elegant of wines made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape.
Sancerre is produced in 15 villages and has Appellation d`Origine Contrôlée (AOC) standing.

Normally as the grapes ripen each year the sugar increases and the acidity level decreases. In 2008, during the ripening period the acidity remained high, producing very well balanced wines with intense flavour and bouquet. This wine is a classic example. Healthy perfectly ripened berries. There is a fleeting hint of elderberry flowers, peach and quince on the nose and a supple ripe mature unctous flavour with citrus notes. [read on...]

Sancerre Blanc, La Reine Blanches 2008
2008 was a very unusual vintage in as much as the acidity in the grapes remained high even with the rise in grape sugar when ripening on the vine. Although having been bottled one month before we tasted this delicious Sancerre in Jean Reverdy's cellar, it was already showing huge character and confirmed the greatness of the 2008 vintage. Powerful exotic fruits of mango, apricot and pineapple with a touch of grapefruit and fine acidity to give excellent balance. [read on...]
