Loire

Loire Valley (French: Vallée de la Loire) is known as the Garden of France and the Cradle of the French Language. It is also noteworthy for the quality of its architectural heritage, in its historic towns such as Amboise, Angers, Blois, Chinon, Orléans, Saumur, and Tours, but in particular for its world-famous castles, such as the Châteaux Amboise, Château de Villandry, Chambord and Chenonceau.

The landscape of the Loire Valley, and more particularly its many cultural monuments, illustrate to an exceptional degree the ideals of the Renaissance and the Age of the Enlightenment on western European thought and design. The Loire Valley is an outstanding cultural landscape of great beauty, containing historic towns and villages, great architectural monuments, its many châteaux, and fine wines.

On December 2, 2000, UNESCO named the central part of the Loire River valley, between Maine and Sully-sur-Loire, to its prestigious list of World Heritage Sites. In choosing this area that includes the French départements of Loiret, Loir-et-Cher, Indre-et-Loire, and Maine-et-Loire, the committee said that the Loire Valley is: ``an exceptional cultural landscape, of great beauty, comprised of historic cities and villages, great architectural monuments - the Châteaux - and lands that have been cultivated and shaped by centuries of interaction between local populations and their physical environment, in particular the Loire itself.``

Big lively fruit with a healthy mixture of white peaches, apricots, pears and mango, and delicious crispness to compliment. [read on...]

Cabernet d'Anjou Les Buissons

There are simply roses and then there are stunning roses. This wine falls into the latter category for which it received the outstanding accolade of 'Coup de Coeur' in the prestigous Hachette. Pale fuschia pink rose with a tinge of orange this 2007 releases soft and delicate flavours of white flowers and soft fruits (raspberry, strawberry, gooseberry). Medium dry, it has wonderful balance, without that sugary insipidness found in so many similar wines. [read on...]

Côteaux du Giennois Blanc Les Tuileries 08

We chose this wine for its excellent quality, classic Sauvignon Blanc character and excellent value. It is like a junior Sancerre in style but much more keenly priced. Classic Sauvignon in style and character, it has delicious citrus and grapefruit on the nose and lemony, gooseberry, and green apples in the flavour with a bracing finish. Great value. [read on...]

Chinon Clos du Chene Vert 2001

After the usual late vintage from this clos situated (unusually) on the right bank of the Loire a fine wine has been produced from vines that are now 26 years old. The soil offers complexity and the mature grape flavours of fruit compote, prunes, raisins, tobacco, fennel and mint. 2005: A bit closed now, allow to come into thier own over the next two to three years. The tannins are silky. [read on...]
