La Cave des Vignerons de Saumur

The Cave des Vignerons was established in 1957 by a group of winegrowers who wanted to combine their experience and expertise and to meet future challenges.

The Saumur Cave des Vignerons, at the heart of the Saumur Champigny vineyard, located at the top of the Saint Cyr en Bourg hill. White limestone, locally known as tuffeau, was first extracted by the Oratorian monks to build churches, houses and the famous Loire Valley chateaux. The site was bought by local winegrowers in 1957, who dug out two vertical shafts to make full use of gravity flow. This original conception enables various activities to take place on separate levels between the receiving platform, located above ground, and the vats 25 metres below.
